This work began in 2023 as a response to my grief for the imminent loss of my dear friend. We lived in separate countries, and rather than ask how she was, I would send her images of where I wandered. All these images I created during her illness; they became a form of conversation. Later, I printed the photographic images and drew upon them with pastel pencils.

Line-making became a meditative act, a place where I considered life, our unknown time here, and what makes a good life. My friend outlived her diagnosis for months, but in the end, she had to let go.

Each image is scanned to print at a large size (60 inches or bigger). On the final print, I paint with acrylic paint 56 lines to mark each year we had her here with all of us. These images are without the paint marks; click through to see how they look in situ on a wall.
